SPRING 2021 ONLINE Classes

Class Information

Note: All ONLINE classes are taught live using Zoom and ALL students are required to be visible during the class. We find that this creates a more productive learning experience, promotes a sense of community and encourages peer teaching/learning. ALL classes are small in size to make the online teaching/learning a quality- typically 6 students. We also offer extra support before and after classes to ensure our students have every opportunity to learn and be successful.

MONDAYS: SCRATCH PROGRAMMING FOR BEGINNERS

SCRATCH is a block-based visual programming language children can program and share interactive media such as stories, games, and animations. As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically. It's a fun way to develop a good foundation of programming concepts and best practices. Scratch is designed and maintained by Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab. Students will be introduced to the Scratch software/workspace, learn foundations of programming, and be challenged to create their own projects including an animation, interactive band and games.

*Students will need to supply their own programing device(s) that can run Scratch software and ability to run Zoom online.

We will offer additional support by scheduling a one-on-one orientation with our students before the first class and guidance on installing correct software.

TUESDAYS: INTRO TO TinkerCAD- a 3d design software

Tinkercad is an online collection of software tools that help people all over the world think, create and make. Tinkercad is an ideal introduction to Autodesk, the leader in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software. In this introductory class, students will gain a foundation of how to use the software/tools through teacher-led instruction and then learn the basics of building 3 dimensional designs using additive and subtractive methods. They will also gain insight into the different capabilities that the Tinkercad software is used for- 3D printing, LEGO designs and Minecraft creation. The final challenge will be for students to design their own bubble wand or glider that will be 3D printed.

*Students will need to supply their own programing device(s) that can run the online Tinkercad software, and ability to run Zoom at the same time. Students will also need to create an account to join the Tinkercad class. Contact us for more options and/or details.
