2021 SUMMER CLASSES
We have put together a schedule of SUMMER ONLINE classes that we feel will accommodate our students needs and provide quality experiences that our community expects from us. All classes are delivered LIVE ONLINE with our expert teacher, Kat Kelley. Every student will receive a one-on-one session prior to the beginning of class to make sure the technology is working, that they have all of the necessary supplies/materials, and so students are comfortable and ready to learn. We understand that what we're offering will not work for everyone and hope to be able to resume in-person classes in the near future.
BEGINNER TO ADVANCED: We keep the class sizes small so that we can alter our curriculum to be accessible for beginners as well as challenge our advanced students.
For ONLINE classes- students must supply their own robot and all summer classes are designed so that students can use the LEGO NXT, EV3, Spike Prime or Mindstorms Inventor robots. We have provided more details about how to purchase and rental opportunities at the bottom of this page. Please feel free to reach out to use for advice, or if you have any questions.
ONLINE SUMMER CLASS SCHEDULE
Tuesdays & Thursdays
Starts July 13th and runs weekly until August 5th
9:00am-10:30am, Tuesdays & Thursdays ONLINE
Introduction To LEGO Robotics with Mrs. Kelley | ages 8.5 & up
Class Fee: $170 + Robot (NXT, EV3, Spike Prime or Mindstorms Inventor)
Build and program robots using the LEGO Mindstorms EV3, Spike Prime or Mindstorms Inventor systems! Learn about mechanical and software design, loops, conditional statements, and problem solving. Students will build their own robot, program it to achieve various tasks and rise to the challenge. Control the robot to avoid obstacles, pick up and carry objects, and play games. Projects are structured so that students work in an open-ended, investigative environment while having fun. Students with prior experience will be challenge with more advanced building and programming. Limited space.
1:30pm-3:00pm, Tuesdays & Thursdays ONLINE
Introduction To Scratch Programming and Microbit Circuit Board | ages 8.5& up | Class Fee: $120 + Microbit
Scratch is a programming language where children can program and share interactive media such as stories, games, and animation. As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically. Scratch is designed and maintained by Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab.
Students in this class will receive an in-depth overview of the programming software and be challenged to create a game, animation, and an interactive art/music project. They will also be introduced to the Microbit circuit board and learn how to make their projects more interactive. Limited space.
3:30pm-5:00pm, Tuesdays & Thursdays
Advanced LEGO Robotics with Mrs. Kelley | ages 9 & up
Class Fee: $170 + robot (NXT, EV3, Spike Prime or Mindstorms Inventor)
Students will be challenged to design and build competition style robots, test/analyze their designs, learn how sensors can improve performance and document their work. They will focus on a specific style of competition robot they're most interested in tackling- FIRST LEGO League (FLL), SumoBot, or other teacher-student chosen project. Every student will work within specific parameters, an outlined process, and a timeline. Limited space.
Provide your own: Some of our students already have their own robot- and that's perfect. Please make sure to double check that all parts are accounted for and your robot is in good working order.

Rental: We have a limited supply of robot for rent. $60 rental fee/$300 deposit. You are responsible for picking up the kit prior to the one-on-one session and then returning it after the last class. Deposits will be returned once the robot has been returned, all parts are accounted for and are in working order. Any missing or broken parts will be replaced and those costs will be deducted from the deposit.
*Keep in mind that these robots/parts are not easy to obtain and typically will need to be ordered or purchased from the LEGO Store (unsure about inventor). We recommend that you plan ahead.
Provide your own: Some of our students already have their own Microbit- and that's perfect. Please make sure to double check that all parts are accounted for and your Microbit is in good working order.
